The F46 shot put final at the ongoing Paris Paralympics saw Indian para-athlete Ameesha come just short of a medal, finishing 14th in the medal match on Wednesday. Ameesha’s personal best throw of 9.25 m was insufficient to place her on the podium; Noel Malkamaki of the United States set a new world record with a throw of 14.06 m. Maria Shpatkivska took home the silver medal in the PlayUnmute full screen category, while Holly Robinson of New Zealand won the bronze medal.
With 21 medals (three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze) added to their already impressive total, the Indian team will have the chance to break their own record for most medals won in a single Paralympic Games.
India had its greatest-ever result in the Tokyo edition (August 24-September 5, 2021) with 19 medals, including five gold, eight silver, and six bronze.At the 2017 Paralympics in Paris, paraathlete Sachin Khilari won a silver medal on Wednesday in the men’s shot put F46 final. Sachin’s throw of 16.32 meters placed her in second place (AB). The Indian competitor, however, was unfortunate to lose out on first place after failing by 0.6 m.
The Indian team brought the total number of medals to a record twenty, with three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze. The team won 13 medals on Monday and Tuesday.
At the Paris Paralympics, parashooter Avani Lekhara captured her first gold medal for India after winning the women’s 10m air rifle final. With 249.7 points, she not only achieved her personal best in the event but also took the first spot on the podium. In the same event, Mona Agarwal took home the bronze medal.
With a score of 234.9, Manish Narwal took home the silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 pistol competition. They had a strong start to the game, but the Indian shooters faltered and ended up in sixth place in the middle.
Rubina placed third in the P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH-1 final and took home the bronze medal.
In the 100-meter T35 event, Preeti Pal placed third and took home the bronze medal in 14.21 seconds. In the 200-meter T-35 race at the Paralympics, she took home her second medal. With an impressive performance, Preeti grabbed the bronze medal.
With a jump of 2.04 meters, athlete Nishad Kumar took home the silver medal in the men’s T47 high jump competition.Yogesh Kathuniya, who placed second in the men’s discus throw F56 final, took home the eighth medal for Team India.
Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi of India defeated Eleonora Sarti of Italy to win the bronze medal in the mixed team compound archery event.
