India surpasses Japan in Olympic medal count: the country won more than 25 medals in the Paris Paralympics, surpassing Japan’s 19 medals from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. This amount of medals at the Paris Paralympics is even more astonishing considering that India only won one medal at the London Paralympics (2012) and went on to win four more in Rio 2016. In contrast, India has never been able to win more than seven medals in a single Olympic season (Tokyo 2020), but this time around in the Paris Paralympics, they poured medals.Athletes with cognitive, vision, or physical disabilities compete in the Paralympics.
The largest factor contributing to the dramatic increase in medals at the Paralympics is the growing number of competitors.Nineteen Indian competitors competed at the Rio Paralympics and took home four medals, two of which were gold. With 54 paraathletes, India is represented at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
India took home 19 medals in all, five of which were gold. And today there are eighty-four participants competing in the Paris Paralympics. It goes without saying that as the number of players rose, so did the medals.Up till September 6, India had won 27 medals in total, including 6 gold ones.
Indian athletes competed in 12 sports in Paris, whereas they only played in 9 events in Tokyo. In Paris, India took part in three new sports: blind judo, para-rowing, and para-cycling.
The primary cause of the dramatic increase in medals at the Paralympics is the growing number of athletes competing. In the previous Paralympics, 19 Indian athletes competed in Rio and won 4 medals, including 2 gold.
In the Tokyo Paralympics, India sent 54 para-athletes, and they won a total of 19 medals, including 5 gold. There are eighty-four competitors competing in Paris as of September 6. Naturally, the number of medals awarded to athletes increases with their numbers; until date, India has won 27 medals total, including 6 gold.

In Paris, three women – Thulasimathi Murugesan, Nithya Sri Sivan and Manisha Ramdas – made it to the podium, while only two men won medals.Interestingly, India got its first female medal winner in 2016 in the form of Deepa Malik and now 9 women have won medals in Paris.
