Mayank Yadav opens up on his international debut and relationship with bowling coach Morne Morkel after India’s win over Bangladesh in the first T20I.Young Indian pacer Mayank Yadav opens up on his relationship with bowling coach Morne Morkel, with whom he has also worked at Lucknow Super Giants. Morkel played a key role in Mayank’s development in the IPL, where he made headlines for his blistering pace in the 2024 season. The pacer suffered a back injury during IPL 2024 that ended his season after just four matches, but the Indian selectors decided to include him in the Indian squad. The young pacer made a brilliant start to his T20I career with a maiden against Bangladesh. He also picked up a crucial wicket of Mahmudullah and finished the match with figures of 1/21 in four overs. In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mayank admitted that he was nervous and had to calm himself down. “It was a great moment because I was recovering from an injury. I was very nervous. I was telling myself not to get tensed and not to get nervous. But when I got to know that I was playing the first match, the last four months flashed before my eyes,” Mayank said. Talking about his relationship with Morkel, Mayank said that they both knew each other well during their time at LSG and credits the former Proteas pacer for his recent success. Elaborating on his equation with Morkel, Mayank said, “Working with him for the last three years has been comfortable for me. He knows me, I know him. It is easy for me to work with him. He knows what things work best for me and where I need to work.” Mayank Yadav lauds SKY leadership Mayank said he was not thinking of bowling his first over as an Indian player as a maiden over but wanted to live the moment and enjoy it. He became only the third Indian to bowl a maiden over for the country in T20Is. The 22-year-old also praised captain Suryakumar Yadav, who gave him freedom in his debut match. “During the run-up, he told me to bowl whatever I want. This is important for a fast bowler, especially in a debut match,”
