Jammu and Kashmir: Another terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in Baramulla

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. A search operation is still underway, the army said. The encounter took place in Chak Tappar Kreeri area of the district, the officials said. Two to three terrorists are hiding in the area. The identity and group affiliation of the killed terrorists are being ascertained. In the third and final phase, polling will be held in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir on October 1.
Meanwhile, anti-militancy operations are still on in Chatroo village in Kishtwar district of Jammu division where two Army personnel were killed and two others injured in an encounter with a group of militants on Friday.
Eight assembly seats spread across Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of the Chenab Valley region and 16 seats in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts will go to polls in the first phase on September 18. Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts will go to polls in the second and third phases on September 25 and October 1, respectively.

The hill districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur in Jammu division have been witnessing a spate of militant attacks on the Army, security forces and civilians for over two months. The terrorists ambush and suddenly attack and then disappear into the jungles of the hilly areas.
A foreign terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. These terrorists are 40 to 50 in number. Following the report, the Army has deployed more than 4,000 trained soldiers, including specialised para commandos and those trained in mountain warfare, in the thickly forested areas of those districts.
